4:00 – 5:00pm Presentation #1: “Best Practices in Data Loss Prevention”
Kevin Toshok, Business Manager
While most companies and infosec professionals make significant effort to prevent data breaches and maintain compliance with data security regulations, breaches continue to occur at an alarming rate at even the best-run organizations. Analysis shows that 2/3 of the large-scale data breaches result from a single root cause - lost or stolen data media. TechR2, in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and key clients in healthcare and financial services, has developed a comprehensive and best-practices Data Loss Prevention approach to the problem, which provides risk reduction and compliance with NIST 800-88, which has become the de facto industry standard in most industries for media sanitization. This presentation with discuss in detail the root cause, the NIST 800-88 standard, and case studies in healthcare and financial services.
Kevin Toshok is the Business Manager and DLP Practice Leader with TechR2, a tier1 provider of certified data destruction and IT asset disposal services. He has held various engineering, sales and management positions with companies such as IBM, EMC and Sun Microsystems for over 25 years, and is an active member and speaker with information security associations ISSA and IAPP. Kevin holds a B.S. in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.B.A. from Ohio University, and is currently satisfying his interest in lifelong learning by studying literature and physics through the MIT OCW program.
